I don't have much to add to Kevin's message, except note that he says
that with multiple partitions it is more complicated.  If you are
booting of this drive, it almost certainly has multiple partitions
like a swap partition and maybe /boot, /usr/local, etc.  So you will
have to copy each filesystem to the right place, and format your swap
partition.
